The Rapha Roller Race – Culture Clash · 27.01.07

Rapha is presenting a grand night of old school roller racing on Saturday, February 10th. Four teams will battle on fixed bicycle rollers to raise money for Leukemia research. Come and watch the clash of cultures: Bankers vs. Messengers vs. Media Types vs. Gym Boys.

As well as the official race, there will be a ‘Have a go’ race: your chance to test your skills on the rollers, with the best times going through to a final on the main stage.

‘Roller race’, noun: A form of working-mans entertainment, popular in the 1950s. Races were held at night in grand ballrooms and theatres. The racing was interspersed with live big band music and dancing. Two or four racers on bicycles fixed to rollers would ride against each other for 500 metres, their progress displayed on a large clock.

Updating the format to 2007, the event will feature Djs, a paying bar, prizes of Rapha product and other merchandise.
